In 2012, she became the first woman and the youngest artist to present her work at the Palace of Versailles in France. Exhibitions in Venice include The World Belongs to You, where Contamination (2008-10) was shown alongside other works from the collection of the Fondation François Pinault at Palazzo Grassi in 2011; and in 2005, The Bride [2001-05] was presented at the Venice Biennale, where it greeted visitors at the entrance of the Arsenale. Her key solo shows include institutions such as the Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Serralves (Porto, 2000); Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo (Seville, 2003); Passage du Désir/BETC EURO RSCG (Paris, 2005); The New Art Gallery Walsall(Walsall, 2007); Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo (São Paulo, 2008); Es Baluard (Palma de Mallorca, 2009); Museu Coleção Berardo (Lisbon, 2010); and Kunsthallen Brandts (Odense, 2011). Her work is represented in private and public collections, including the AMOREPACIFIC Museum of Art; Caixa Geral de Depósitos; Câmara Municipal de Lisboa; Coleção António Cachola; Domaine Pommery; Fundação EDP; Fundación Helga de Alvear; Fondation François Pinault; Fondation Louis Vuitton pour la Création; MUSAC; Museu Coleção Berardo. Her work is often described as seductive, lush, humorous and irreverent. Her creations are very large in scale; usually objects we recognize, but sculpted with materials completely far removed from the subject matter itself. This is the ingenious, wacky, innovative, crazy, joyful mind of Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos.</p>
